| HOW TO PLAY STUD POKER |
| Stud poker is a more complex game than draw poker. Not necessarily in its mechanics, but definately in its psychology and practice. Because a portion of each players hole cards are available for everybody to see, it takes some of the guess work out of determining your opponents hands, but also gives everybody the opportunity to represent their unseen cards for values other than what they truely are, and in turn, bluff others off of pots. This makes Stud poker just that bit more interesting. |

| |
| | FIVE CARD STUD | | Preliminaries |
| All players agree to a fixed size of bets to be used during the game, and also the size of the ante. Pre flop, every player puts the ante into the pot, and is dealt two cards. One is dealt facing down for only the player to see, and one facing up for everyone to see. The player to the dealers left always gets dealt the first card, and players are dealt to in a clockwise direction. The person with the lowest card showing is obliged to make the first bet, then all other players have the opportunity to in turn either, call (match the bet), raise (match the original bet and add another bet), or fold (give up your hand). In the event that two players have the same low card showing, the player closest to the dealers left opens. |
| |
| |
| | The Third Card |
| Once betting has finished, another card is dealt face up to every player still in the hand. This time, the player who was the last person to raise in the previous round bets first, and another round of betting proceeds. |
| |
| |
| | The Fourth Card |
| The same procedure as above is repeated, with each player being dealt one card face up, with the last raiser from the previous round opening the betting. |
| |
| |
| | The Final Card |
| The same procedure is repeated one last time, with a card being dealt face up to each player left in the hand, thus completing his five card hand. A final round of betting takes place, then if by this point there is more than one player left who hasn't folded, a showdown occurs. |
| |
| |
| | The Showdown |
| Any players left in the hand now turn over their hidden (face down) card, and the best hand wins the pot (see hand rank chart). In the event of two or more players having equal hands, the pot will be split evenly amongst those players. |

| | VARIATIONS OF STUD POKER | | Canadian Stud |
| The same as five card stud, but four card straights and flushes are valid hands. Four card straights and flushes beat three of a kind, and a four card straight flush beats a full house, but not four of a kind. |
| |
| |
| | Seven Card Stud |
| This version of stud is now far more popular than the original. Before the first round of betting, players are dealt three cards, two face down and one face up. The game proceeds in the same manner as five card stud, with the player with the lowest card on display opening the betting in the first round, and then the last raiser from the previous round opens on every round there after. There will be a round of betting after the first three, as well as the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh cards are dealt. The seventh card will always be dealt face down, so each player still in the pot has three cards face down, (the first, second and seventh), and four cards face up. Players then make the best five card hand from the seven cards available to them. |

| | Seven Card Stud hi/lo |
| The same as seven card stud, but the pot is split between the highest and the lowest qualifying hands. For a hand to qualify as low, all cards must be eight or lower. An ace can count as high or low, and a hand can still be classed as low if it makes a straight or a flush, so an A2345 straight flush would likely win the high and low halves of the pot. If there is no qualifying low hand, the highest hand will win the whole pot. |
| | | Razz |
| Seven card stud, where the lowest hand wins the whole pot. |
